CVSO Music Camp

We are announcing the first-ever Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra Summer Ensemble Camp, July 17-19, 2011. The camp is for students entering the 8th through 12th grades and playing an orchestra instrument. It will be held at Beaver Creek Reserve near Fall Creek, Wisconsin. Teachers will include members of the CVSO and others. Please click the Summer Ensemble Camp link for more information.

The Education Committee

The Education Committee, chaired by Bill Eisenbarth, organizes an educational component to the March Symphony concert each season. For example, the theme for the March 13, 2010 concert was Sorcery and Romance; the year before that was Myths and Legends.

Through the month of February, musicians from the CVS visited third grade music classes in public and parochial schools in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and Altoona. They explained their instruments and demonstrated the highs and lows and loud and quiet of the instrument along with playing selections from pieces the orchestra will be playing. Lively discussions always followed. A total of 1,440 third graders learned more about the orchestra through these presentations. Students also receive a voucher for free tickets to attend the concert with their parents.

Art students also get involved. Students created art works inspired by selections of symphonic music from the March concert. The gallery at the State will displays the students' work during the week preceding the concert.

The Education Committee can always use volunteers, especially in the months before the March concert, to help with these projects. If you are interested in being a part of this program, please contact the Symphony office.
